How to set up subscription renewal reminders
A reminder you don't see is worse than no reminder — it gives false confidence. The trick is putting reminders where you can't miss them.
Where the reminder should go
Email beats notifications for renewal reminders, because email is where you already deal with money decisions (bank statements, receipts, bills).
Calendar reminders work as a backup, especially for big yearly subs that hit once a year.
App notifications get dismissed reflexively. Don't rely on them as the primary signal.
When the reminder should fire
Two days before the renewal is the sweet spot. Long enough to act, short enough to be relevant.
For yearly subs over $100, add a second reminder 7 days before — these are the ones most worth pausing to reconsider.
What the reminder should say
The reminder should include the service name, the amount, and a direct cancel link if you've stored one. Anything less and you'll just dismiss it.
SubRemind sends a reminder email for every upcoming renewal in your dashboard.
